GPL Licence & Redistribution Notice

What you are paying for

You are not buying a software licence. Almost every product in our catalogue is licensed under the GNU General Public Licence, which already grants you the right to use, copy, modify and redistribute it, on as many sites as you like, at no cost. Nobody can sell you that right, and we do not pretend to.

What you pay GPLReal for is a service: sourcing the current release, verifying the archive, scanning it for malware, hosting it on fast infrastructure, keeping a changelog, notifying you of updates, and answering your questions. If you would rather obtain the software elsewhere, the licence permits that, and we would not stand in your way.

The files are the originals

Archives are redistributed unmodified. We do not remove licence checks, inject code, or repackage. Copyright notices, licence files and author attribution are preserved exactly as the author shipped them, as the GPL requires.

If we ever do need to alter a file, we will say so on that product's page and mark the change, because the GPL requires modifications to be identified.

Source code

Where a product ships compiled or minified assets, the GPL entitles you to the corresponding source. Ask us at the address on our contact page and we will provide it, or point you to the author's published source, at no charge.

What you do not get

• No support from the original author. Your relationship is with us, not them. Do not contact them about a product obtained here.
• No access to the author's own update servers or licence-keyed services. Some products call home for updates or for a hosted API. Those services belong to the author and are not part of what we distribute. Where a product depends on such a service to function, we say so on its page.
• No trademark rights. See our trademark notice.

Products that are not wholly GPL

Some commercial WordPress products are split-licensed: GPL PHP alongside a proprietary JavaScript bundle, or bundled third-party assets under separate terms. We check licence provenance before listing and record the result on the product page. Where a component cannot be lawfully redistributed, we do not list the product.
